Biography:
Buok Duach is a driven young South Sudanese woman who’s passionate about giving back to her community and the broader African-Australian community.
Personal Information:
“We have so much talent & potential amongst the African community. Through this program, we’re able to provide access to networks & opportunities that advance academic & personal careers, whilst also developing well-rounded, skilled & confident leaders.” Buok is currently working at the National Australian (NAB) as part of the Financial Crime division, a role which she obtained through participation in the AAIP (African-Australian Inclusion Program). She completed a Science degree majoring in Physiology and Developmental Biology at Monash University & had embarked upon a Master of Medical Ultrasound also at Monash however, due to COVID, had to put her studies on hold. During these last few months, having witnessed the impact COVID-19 has had, Buok has transferred to a Master of Mental Health because she strongly believes there’s a high demand for Mental Health practitioners within the African community here in Australia, particularly amongst her South Sudanese community. Buok has volunteered and advocated for many South Sudanese community intiatives, including the Rise of South Sudan, the South Sudanese Mental Health check-in & most recently My Brothers Keeper. She’s also actively supported the youth within her community through her work with Red Roo Sports & the SSANBA Basketball tournament. Ultimately, Buok works to provide and create opportunities & resources within her community to better equip the youth, whether that be academically or within their desired career path.
