Biography:
Everina (Eve) Munyonge was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, however, due to war and conflict in the Congo, her family fled the country and eventually settled in Australia in 2009 under the UNHCR.
Personal Information:
After completing both English Language School and High school, Eve went on to study a Bachelor degree in Psychological Sciences (Cognitive Neuroscience) at the University of South Australia and later on did a Masters degree in Health and International Development at Flinders University. She currently works as a Community Development Officer at Survivors of Torture and Trauma Assistance and Rehabilitation services (STTARS). Along with this, Eve has also worked in community services providing support for people with mental health and disability as well as a research assistant at the University of South Australia exploring the employment seeking experiences of Africans in South Australia. As a child of migrant parents with a refugee background, Eve understands the struggle that comes with navigating life in Australia as a young African woman. She’s passionate about ensuring that every African child in Australia has the opportunity to access and know how to navigate the system. Eve hopes to draw from her personal experiences as well as professional experiences to mentor young Africans as well as inspire them to become the person they would like to be. Some of the values that influence how Eve views and interact with the world includes: Justice and fairness, respect, empathy, family and the famous saying “Do unto others as you would have them unto you.” In terms of future goals; Eve’s career goals include working in evaluation and policies focusing on vulnerable communities such as Refugees, Asylum Seekers or Aboriginal communities. Eve has been involved in multiple community activities and volunteering program such as the Welcoming Futures Leadership Program 2020 and Operation Flinders – an intensive hiking program. Aside from work, studies and volunteering activities, Eve is just a young African woman who enjoys hiking, good food, good music, spending time with family and friends and having a great laugh.
